dieseling when shut off after motor is hot

boat runs great till we get out to destination when you put into neutral it starts , dieseling , and continues when turned off

what are you working on?

we can assume its between 2 liters and 11 liters in size and between 100hp and 2500 hp

most of the time its either improper timing, running lean, or running hot

My 4.3LX 4bbl ran on with key off and hot I fixed it by turning in the idle mixture screws in to 1 1/4 turns from seat. I don't know if they're air or fuel screws, but this fixed it.

my 3.0 would diesel if I was pulling skiers and shut off without idling for 30 seconds. keying off in gear solved that for when I needed to kill motor quickly
