Preparing to get barge ready for the water, if it ever stops raining. End of season last year started to get a little outdrive lube and water in the bilge. When pulled from the lake and drive put in trailer position, oily water dripped from bellows area, so pretty sure that I have yoke seal issue. Boat has always had more water intrusion than I would prefer, couple gallons over the course of a full day. Previous owner said he always got some water as well. Bellows changed by local marina year before I purchased. My guess, with cheap aftermarket stuff. Planning/prepared to change gimbal grease seal, gimbal bearing, all three bellows, yoke seal and impeller.

Have purchased Quicksilver transom repair kit, alignment tool, gimbal bearing, grease seal and sleeve install accessories. Hinge pin tool, bearing removal tool, spline grease, upper unit seal kit, new gaskets for the drain/breather screws, bellows adhesive, retainer bearing wrench, flexible socket extension, drive lube and 2-4-c. I'm going to make an exhaust bellows tool like the one shown in the sticky, and an outdrive stand. Other than the beer and a good dose of patience, is their anything else that I need or should do while I have everything apart?

Check your shift cable, if it looks like it will go another year, change it. I donrt know about the gen 2, but you have to pull the out drive to change a alpha 1, as I will be doing.

thanks!

thanks!

A big "Thanks" to everyone here on the forum. First big maintenance jobs done. Impeller change, yoke seal, short yoke, gimbal bearing, bellows, water hose, shift cable, trim sender/limiter, sanded and painted pulleys. Discovered that float switch on bilge pump wasn't working, replaced. repaired rotted section of sundeck, plugs, dist cap and button, checked alignment...found all the information I needed to do the job right here. Took a while an hour or so at a time after work, but all done and ready to hit the lake. Do your research, spend a little on some tools and listen to those that have done it many times. Forum got me past my problems every time I got stuck. Thanks again!

Re: thanks!

a good slide hammer is helpful for removing the gimbal bearing, I ended up doing a complete transom reseal after my shift cable bellows broke, that little hole can bring in a lot of water. I also replaced the intermediate shift cable too.
