I'm about to pull the trigger on a Four Winns 258 Vista that only has 130 hours and shows absolutuly no wear on the hull, deck, cabin, and engine. You could eat off the bilge it's so clean.

The only thing that concerns me about this boat is that the drive is missing a lot of paint and looks kinda bad to me. All of my previous boating has been with <21' trailered mercruisers in fresh water and I've never seen this kind of wear. It looks structurally fine, no dings on skeg or anywhere else, just "scrape" marks from removing marine growth. Does this drive look OK for a boat that's been used in salt and brackish water? It has spent the last year or so in covered dry dock.

That drive needs to be wiped down to remove any wax then sanded down with aluminum oxide paper and wiped again then primed with Zinc Chromate primer then painted.Looks like just some tender loving care is needed and then apply the proper anodes for the type of water it will be used in. Add anodes to trim tabs if there aren't any

Thank you sir, that makes me feel better about this buy. There are some really good mechanics on the coast here, I'll ask them for a quote, I was hoping all that was in order was some prep and painting. Is the drive paint just a cosmetic issue or does it help prevent corrosion?

It helps to prevent corrosion. If you want a first class job on it, it needs to be taken apart and blasted with an oxide media. I would spend some time and just sand with aluminum oxide sandpaper. Do not use a wire brush on aluminum.West Marine carries the primer.( Zinc Chromate)
