Re: EBay raised their fees

here comes the backlash... there is no need for these increases and they are going to get hammered by the Power Seller community come February.... watch how many PS who are struggling now to make it drop out.

Now's the time for Yahoo auctions to make a real run at them.

They gotta make money too. No one is holding a gun to your head makeing you list your stuff.

I think the ebay fee's are fair for the amount of people who see my item. Most of the time people get big bux's for things on ebay, and if it where not for ebay the'd just be throwing the stuff in the basement or throwing it out.

I have no complaints with ebay.

I'm kinda 50/50 on the deal too.

Where else can I advertise to literally thousands of people vs. the local paper?

As far as the fess? I don't care for increases of any kind. EBay is making money hand-over-fist in the first place.

I'm a very small-time 'chump-changer' on there anyways, so the fees won't impact me near as much as the power guys.

H.

If you are an occassional seller than it really doesn't matter all that much. When you are doing it as a business it is a very big deal.

The dirty secret is that rarely do thousand of people, or even hundreds, ever see your items on eBay. There is so much on ebay you are lucky if a typical items gets 50 views. Just check out the page counters on some listings.

eBay is extrodinarily profitable. They have a very low cost structure and hardly any marketing expenses. They are just taking advantage of their current monopoly position to price gouge. $40 for a 7-day listing on an auto is expensive. When you take into consideration you may have to list it more than twice to get it to sell it becomes very expensive.

If I were on the Yahoo team I would woo over the eBay powersellers by offering to carry over their feedback and discount fees coupled with heavy marketing and PR to make a serious run at eBay. This is the opening I would have been waiting for.

Re: EBay raised their fees

So how will the increases impact how you sell, and what we see on ebay?

So, ignoring anything that has to do with vehicles:

Turbo lister is now going to cost you a dime, which could add up, if you are a high volume seller.

Listing fees didn't change much. So little impact if sellers start at a lower starting bid, which could increase some bidding activity(maybe). And, if you don't want to start bidding at less than a dollar, it will cost you an extra nickel. This will amount to a big pile of nickels for ebay, but can be avoided with a low starting bid.

Reserve price fees have gone up quite a bit. So expect to see fewer low priced (under $40) items with a reserve price, or a $1 higher reserve price(pass it on to the buyer). Or this may encourage some sellers to increase their starting price, which will cost them a nickel or two.

If you have an ebay store, the per item insertion fees are cut in half. So maybe we will see more ebay stores. Maybe not.

Finally, the ten day listing fee, doubled to $.20 .
Is it a move to make more $ by ebay, or to discourage 10 day listings? I think it is to make more $. And I think it is worth it, if you cover two weekends. Again, if you are a volume seller, this will add up. Want to save the $.20, then go with the 7 day listing.

Pictures haven't changed, which would have been a huge revenue generator for ebay.

So most if the increases can be avoided or passed on.

OK, tell me where I'm all wrong and terribly confused on this.

I am confused on the Turbo lister...

Are they going to charge me .10 every time I use it now? I love that program.

Their web site said something about 'listing designer'... is that the fancy stuff within Turbo lister, or are they talking about the whole program itself?

I also use Shooting Star as a manager program. I think it uploads auctions too, but I've never used that part of the program.

H.

Re: EBay raised their fees

roscoe- they are clearly trying to further discourage reserves and long listings. They are also trying to eliminate low value items from being listed.

Look at it this way, listing fees at the low end increased almost 17% and about 10% for the rest. Reserve fees increased 100%

And, aren't they nice? They are going to stop stiffing you for your listing fee if a bidder does not pay (but only if you relist it and it resells). Isn't that awfully nice of them? They make you wait 17 days minimum before you can get your final value credit from a deadbeat bidder and they were keeping the listing fee. The Deadbeat only gets punished when they rack up 3 NPB/FVC requests.

eBay is now placing a bet that Powersellers need eBay more than the other way around. Powersellers are the engine that keeps eBay going.
