I Have a 1995 3liter GM Mercruser set up.
I just pulled the starter and Serviced it;
The delco remy was simple to just clean up as
this boat has low hours.
I did this to eliminate the starter as my starting
problem.
There is also a new battery'
These steps were taken because on starting, the
engine turned over twice then would not turn over
again. There was a click from behind the engine and all the gauges went back to zero and after that nothing. If the battery was removed, by the next day on re installing the battery on
turning the ignition the click again and all gauges back to zero and nothing after that.
I re and re'd the starter and jumped the posts
and behold the engine turns over like new.....
it is new........ The sound seems to come from
the area of the 50 amp circuit breaker and I
don't now if its tripped or not seems to be
sticking out but will not push in ? Any
Ideas appreciated Thanks so far for the
ideas on the battery and the starter but maybe i did not understand you. The battery is new and all connections perfect. The starter is like new
all serviced and turns the engine over perfectly when you apply power directly to the starter posts the selenoid moves and the engine turns over perfectly. Need another answer thanks though.

Re: Electrical Problems

When you turn the key & all you here is a click it probably is the solenoid coil on top of your starter. It sounds like the coil is energizing but the contacts are not making,Contatcs let voltage flow through to energize starter.

Re: Electrical Problems

Make sure your battery connections are tight and clean, I had a problem when asking for starting voltage it would leave a spark gap big enough to cause a no start.
