Had my boat in the water a couple of days ago. Tach, gas, water temp gauges started acting crazy. Once home started checking fuses found nothing amiss. Motor trim was working and now isn't. Charged batteries. Now I have nothing. No radio, no trim, no electrical at all. Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... You probably have corroded wiring ends, 'n a Bad Ground,...

Start at the battery terminals, 'n remove, sand, clean to Shiny metal, reinstall, 'n grease the connections,...

Work yer way through the wiring system, til everything works Right again....

'n remember, every wire has Two(2) ends,.... ;)

Thanks going to start that. Had water in bilge. Removed. Found broken connection to bilge pump. Going to start following all the wiring and checking the grounds.

Boat now starts. Gauges still not working. All fuses seem okay. ???

Re: electrical problems

Fuses can be good but have corrosion/rust around the contacts. If you have the old glass fuse type pull each fuse and clean the ends and the holder.

Re: electrical problems

The gauges are NOT powered from the fuse panel so checking and cleaning fuses, although a good idea, won't solve the problem. Gauges are powered by the "I" terminal on the ignition switch when it is in the RUN position. Check the "B" (battery" terminal on the ignitiion for +12 volts (key on or off). If not there then start at the battery and work forward through the engine harness. If +12 volts is present at the "B" terminal turn the key to RUN and check for +12 volts at the "I" terminal. If not there you have a bad switch but I'm betting that's not the case. I'm betting you tripped a breaker in the engine bay when you were poking around. Once you get the engine to crank again, if the gauges don't come alive, check the wire on the "I" terminal that feeds the gauges. Either it came undone or the ground connection on the string of gauges was lost.
