Engine Cranks, then won't crank, then cranks

I have a 1999 Yamaha inboard/outboard engine. It will start and run fine. Then when we try to restart it won't. Then we start again and accelerate it will stall out. Then after 15-20 minutes start again and run fine. Any ideas?

For starters try posting in the Yamaha section. You're in the OMC (outboard motor co.) so you might get some better responses there.


And then, are you saying it starts cold and runs fine, then after you shut it off and try to restart it, it just cranks and won't restart until 15-20 minutes later?

Have you checked compression? Or what about spark after it won't start? Are you getting fuel?
