Hi, I have an '05 etec 40 that I am wondering if it is possible to charge a battery with. The motor is pull start with a tiller setup at the moment. Do I have to add the electric start kit and wiring kit to have charging capabilities with a 12 volt battery. Ideally I would just like to wire the outboard up to a battery so that I can charge the battery for running accessories. I dont want to pay for the electric start kit at the moment.

Thanks

The best way to charge your battery is the electric start kit.Because the ground post is on the starter motor. So save your money for the kit.

What kind of acc. do you plan on using? A good deep cycle batt.should be good enough for a couple of lights and a radio.Charge the batt.when you get back home.

You can get the coil and rectifier for ~$100 but would have to manufacture a junction for the wiring between the two and to/from your battery, or buy junction for additional cost. Installation would involve removing the flywheel.

This would work, but I agree with the other posters, the electric start kit will solve your problem and give you much more convenience.
