i repaired my motor and it revs great in neutral but when its under load i cant get it passed 5mph on the water (gps). i did all the adjustments on the carb so i have it adjusted to its fullest. the motor is pushing a 14ft flat bottom john boat with me (210lbs) and a friend (180lbs). could the reason be bcause there is almost 400lbs in a 14ft boat?

That could have something to do with it, but I would expect more. Make sure your motor is running on both cylinders. Your story is classic.

FYI, you are definitely not going to get on a full plane with that much load in a 14 foot boat. If it will plane with you alone in the boat, thats about all you can expect. With an 80 pound Wards Sea King 12 footer, and a total of 270 pounds load, my 5.5 will just barely eek out a low speed plane at sea level, with the wind behind you, surfing a wake, and while going over Niagara falls:D

My 7.5 Hp Merc barely planes with two small adults, and my 9.9/15 Johnny-rude on a 140 pound welded Western 12 footer just planes with three full grown adults over 180 pounds each and gear, so I think you're fine.
