evinrude 70 exhaust manifold removal-1990

Can the manifold be removed without removing the powerhead, by loosening and moving the bottom cover to get to the bottom bolts

I think you can shift the cover to get at the lower bolts. I am sure someone will come along that has done it before.

Thanks, Hope so. I removed all the bolts I could find and can somewhat shift it but not enough.

There is no removable exhaust manifold on a 1990 70hp E/J outboard. The 56 cid motors have a removable water jacket cover over the exhaust but no removable exhaust plate.

Now, if you actually have removable exhaust plates the you have a 49 cid 3 cylinder but it won't be a 1990 70 hp.

you made me go look up my motor Evinrude 1988 70 hp... it is totally in pieces now...but since I took it all apart I am interested in this thread...

it seems to be the 56.1 cu in...as are the 60 and 65 hps as well

here is a picture of my midsection and the exhaust housing,( i think)

OK, do you have to pull the powerhead to remove the 2 lower exhaust cover plate bolts? And, you are right it is only a removable plate. I have water in the #1 cylinder and was going to replace the gasket along with the head gasket.

So now I can answer my own question. Yes you can after you find all of the bolts.
