Evinrude with no water flow

My Evinrude TE40ELENM 40 HP has been sitting for 4 years and now has no water flow. I took the bolts out the bottom and the lower unit drops down a bit and then hangs up. What do I need to do to change the impeller?. .... Any help will be appreciated. ..... ted

The reason your lower unit is hanging up is the shift linkage. The bolt that holds the linkage is located on the bottome left (looking from the back of the motor) of the power head. If u have u-joints for you wrachet you can get this bolt by removing the starter...if not you'll need to remove the lower engine cowling (4 bolts). Once you remove the linkage bolt the lower unit should drop....don't let the shift rod move, and make sure it is in neutral when you drop the LU.
