I have a 1992 40HP Evinrude TE40 FLENM that worries me every time I start it because it takes a long time for the water to flow from the indicator tube. .. Does this engine have a thermostat that keeps the water till the engine gets warm?. ... I changed the impeller but that didn't help. ..... Any ideas will sure be appreciated. ..... THANKS. .....ted

Have you checked the hose that goes to the indicator from the engine. It could be partially plugged up.Spiders and other insects can get in them.

Yes it has a thermostat, ussualy it tales a minute for the thermostat to open given that the motor gets warm really fast.
If you want to test the thermostat get it out boil water and submerge the thermostat in it, if it start to dilate it is working.

no pee no cool. the pee stream is an indicator that the impeller is pumping water, not that the thermostats are opening and cooling the motor. with out the pee stream there is no cooling. you have a weak impeller, replace it immediately. it should not take more than 5-10 seconds for the block to fill and the stream to start. Gary also had a good idea.
