Extra Wires coming out of Control

[1976-MFG-Caprice]

Hello all. I have a 1976 MFG Caprice with a 1975 Evinrude 115. I am restoring this boat and when I pulled off the controls i found an extra set of wires that do not go anywhere. As you can see in the pic... does any have any idea what they go to?

Hard to see colors in the picture, are they gray, black and purple? If they are it is a harness for a tach hookup.

Thanks for the info. Interestingly the wires coming directly out of the control are all purple, but then spliced to gray, black and purple.

Some one in the past has done a hatchet job on the wiring, maybe they didn't have the proper color wire.
