Floor replacement What do you think of this type of floor...

I was thinking about putting some kind of floor that would allow any kind of moisture or fluids to run right through it into the bilge.

Could a person put some kind of steel, aluminum, or hard plastic that has lots of holes in it that would allow this?

Something like you would see on a catwalk for example..
The floor in this boat is only about 3ft wide and 6 ft long. I was thinking of running cross braces between the stringers and mount the flooring to that. I wouldn't really even need to glass, but I think I would at least glass the cross pieces (joists)for strength between stringers.

Sounds silly, but wouldn't this end any future floor damage? If you made it removable, it would be real easy to replace or clean underneath.

And as far as using different metals vs. saltwater, I would certainly powdercoat them first before install.
I have access to a powdercoating facility, so the cost there is negligble.

Thanks,

H.

I don't think weight would really be an issue.
I also have access to some aircraft type of aluminum. It's very strong stuff and light.

If I box the joists in tight enough, I might be able to just put some wire mesh down.

H.

Not a bad idea. When you have the floor ripped out make sure you have a free to drain path to the stern of the boat. Smooth out or fill and spots where H2O will collect. If you look in the Cabelas catalog there are plastic catwalk steps made to walk out on your boat trailer. I have seen these and they would work. You would only need small drainage areas not quite the area you are considering. Allot of the older smaller runabouts had a removable panel down the center that allot of us used for ski storage.

Bob
