I have a Force 120hp 4cyl 2 stroke outboard and went home to notice that a chunk of metal broke off from the left fin of the gear case assembly. I can't find the piece either.

Are there any options other than replacing the entire assembly ($1500 part)??? Thanks for any help you can give.

Nick

Could you perhaps be speaking of the cavitation plate. If so, I had the same problem. A small corner portion of the plate broke off. It has not hindered my performance, I'm just going to have it fixed in the off season.

You might consider putting on a doelfin or stingray (whichever model suits you). Unless the "chunk" that's missing won't allow you to attach one. Other than that, any good shop can build up the missing piece, grind it down, paint it and you'll never know it was broken. Good luck.
Backlash

Take the boat out again & see if the performance has changed if not dont worry if it has a machine shop will be able to weld a repair to your cav plate or try a prop shop :)
