I have a 89 force 50hp motor. It runs great untill it reaches full speed then it starts to cut out, kind of like it is running out of gas. Back off on the gas and it is fine. Just started doing this about a week ago. Whats wrong?

Sure sounds like a fuel supply problem be sure all components are tight and in good shape, check
the tank vent.
Dissconnect the gasline at carb(s)
carefully crank and observe gas as it pumps into a can should be a strong pulse. If weak
rebuild the pump.

I had the same problem once. The problem was the float bowl on the carb had loosened.

Youll need a distributor wrench or some similiar wrench to get to the bolt.

Hope this is all your prob is.

Took me a while to find it.

Tom

Re: force 50 problems

I have an 89 Force 50 on a 15ft Bayliner. Boat has 2 plastic portable tanks and was set up with quick-connect fittings that you could switch between tanks when one ran out. Developed a small leak in the fitting on the fuel line, replaced it and it still leaked enough to cause problem similar to yours. Eliminated fittings, ran line between the tanks, thru a "T" to the engine - tightened everything up with hose clamps; no more problem. I leave the tanks in the boat and just watch the fuel level. Went nuts trying to discover that leaking fitting. Hope this helps.
