Force 9.8 slows after half throttle

I have a Force 9.8, purchased new. After the breakin period, which took a long time, I noticed that the engine would slow down when thr throttle was advanced from half to full. It would continue to run smooth, just slower. It starts well and runs well except for this problem. Friends have the identical engine and do not have this problem and their top speed is greater than mine. I have gone through the manual, but can find nothing relating to this problem. Changed plugs twice, with no improvement. No adjustment causes any change. Sure could use some help.
Thanks
Joe

Check out the fuel system, such as fuel line connectors and the sealing orings in them, any fuel filter, carburator main jets for any deposits, and the timing link and sync if applicable. You may need a service manual to help in service.

Usually a fuel condition will momentarily improve if the choke momentarily is applied during the maladay.

Some like to try giving the primer bulb a squeeze while it's acting up to see if the power picks up. It might help point towards a fuel pump/fuel line connector/filter prob. As apposed to plugged jet(s).

While you are checking it out, take a compression check and note that any differential between cylinders (if it has more than one) is less than 10-15%.
