I just changed the spark plugs on my 1996 OMC 7.4GL inboard. This is the first time the plugs (ACDelco MR43T) have been changed since I purchased the boat in January. When I pulled the plugs I inspected each closely and found that all were fouled with carbon deposits and one had a little oil film on it. After looking at a few burn charts I see that fouling is typical of a plug that hasn't reached the optimum burn temp of 450 degrees and/or a maladjusted carb. Would I be right to replace my ignition coil and seeing what that does before rebuilding/adjusting my carb?
Maybe I'm trying to do too much to fix this issue but I'm just trying to do the best preventative maintenance I can to make this engine last. Having said all this, fire away and let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
