Ok my 89 Ranger orignally came with an electric one which somebody has replaced with a manual one at some point which over the years has fallen apart and doesn't work. I want to put another electic selector back in so I can actually use the switch and fuel guage how it was inteded to. First question which I know the correct answer to is, I have a Pollack valve from a truck I would like to use but it is not Marine approved, even though it's not marine aproved is this valve really unsafe and is there a way to safely install this either mount it in an airtight box to seperate it from possible vapors? or something along those lines and is there another inexpensive alternative.

Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Fuel Selector Valve

The electric fuel tank switching valves use a solenoid and have no arc or spark producing parts, they stand up well enough under a pickup so should be ok in a boat. My personal preference would be a manual switching valve for reliability, those electric valves dont have the best reputation.

Re: Fuel Selector Valve

Whether you have an electric valve or manual has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. You can still use the gauge and the switch to select which tank the gauge is monitoring.
