Hello. Have got a 4.3 liter engine, but don't find anything on what it is or has its origin. The number on it is casting nr is 10227196, and I did find a T 01074 LB. Can anybody help me to find out what kind of engine it is.

Hello Karsten Busk Larsen, and :welcome: to iboats.

That's a 1993 to 1995 engine. Gen II, but not vortec... Yes, the covers on the heads say 'Vortec', but the heads are not vortec, count the intake manifold bolts.... Vortec has 8 vertical bolts, non-vortec has 12 at an angle.

It's called a '4.3LX' if it has a 4bbl carb, or a '4.3L' if it's got a 2 bbl carb....

Ok. I bought the engine as a Volvo penta 434 (colored red) but when starting to work on It the red disappeared and it was black. The number "T 01074 LB" what does that tell me? Is it prodused at Tonawanda plant?

All the marine 4.3s were produced at tonawanda.

Okay. I read the story about the 4.3 liter by you Scott Danforth, a lot of numbers to get lost in, and alot of details to remember about pistons and con-rods. Is there any spesific parts list for this engine? Or is any 4.3LX list valid for the years 93 - 95

Is the 10238181 heads standard or original on the 10227196 block? Have a feeling that previously owner have used what parts he had, on this one.

Heads are correct for a 93-95 and so is the block what makes you think you dont have a 93-95 motor?

The 93-95 is ok, but I don't have the story behind the engine and it's earlyer owner's. And since ther is no valid engine number on it, and the Volvo penta ID dont match, I have to try and find out if all the parts is for this engine block, and not some Frankenstein engine. Since the heads have the space for injectors, and pistons have space for 4 valves pr cylinder. I have tryed to post some pictures her put I'm not allowed to do so.

injectors would be in the intake manifold, not the head.

pistons are the typical GM can fit LH and RH bank and be installed backwards . its not clearance for 4 valves per cylinder. its symmetry so that the line workers can screw up and it wont matter.

Ok. Yes the injectors is in the intake manifold, If it was a injection engine, but the heads have the space for the injector so they can fit.

the clearance has been there in the heads for almost 30 years. doesnt matter if the motor is EFI, Carb, CNG vapor, in a boat, in a truck or in a fork lift. its a casting feature that is in all the 4.3 heads since about 1990
