I recently used the wrong grease in the gimble and spline grease fittings. I used the multi purpos/ bearing grease. I am going on vacation this week, is it ok to use? What could happen?

You will be fine, Just get the right grease down the road and grease purge it later. The worse thing that could happen is it could break down and seep by mixing diffrent types of grease.

Should I have the drive unit taken off and cleaned then regreased or just add correct lube?

Your gimble will purge the grease if you pump more into it, I would not worry about the splines. After two years and pumping grease into mine, when I pulled the outdrive this spring,But I used the 2-4-c grease at one point before I knew what typr to really use. I had a lot of extra purged grease sitting inside the u-joint bellow area. I cleaned it up real good... So all in all I think you will be fine, just go get a tube of merc. quicksilver grease and pump about 5 pumps into the gimble.

Just use the Right grease next time....
