hard start from cold

hello every body i need some help about my 90hp 2 stroke yamaha (2004 model with prime start).Its a brand new motor and I can't get it started on the first cranking.The four times I went with it and tried to start it from cold I always have to try for more than four times.Then when the engine is and warm the engine starts immitiatally and normally.The engine works 100% ok on idle and also on high revves,any suggestions plse?

Is this engine an EFI or carburetor model? Are you pumping the fuel bulb till its firm? What is your procedure for using the prime start?

it is a carb engine.Yes i am pumping the fuel bulb untill its hard.the procedure of using prime start is fully automatic.Just turn the key on and start the motor.With out pressing the key (i don't have key pressing on this model)

pickup,<br /><br />before starting, try lifting the warm up lever up all the way and pushing back down 3 times. Make sure you push the lever back down and then try starting. <br /><br />Raising the lever works the accelerater pump and pumps a little gas into the carbs.<br /><br />When it takes 4 times to get it started how long are you cranking for? A few seconds each time?

Do these carbs have accelerator pumps? I don't know the prime start system but most OB carbs don't have an accelerator pump. Check the manual.

not to be crude, but welcome to the world of carberauted outboards.... they very rarely start on first try when cold..... you can make it happen though, with proper technics of choke and primer bulb and so on, but each engine has its own personality. my 50 hp johnson will start first time, then die and then stumble and cough and then will start perfectly after that, its usually just the first try that gets ya...start it daily and it will love you always! most people let em sit for a month and wonder why they wont start<br /> m ikey
