By 96 90tlru outboard normaly has a voltage reading of 12.5 when not running and 14.2 at idle. The last time out it got to 16.2 (at 3400RPM) and the display started to flash. When I got back to the harbor running around 1200RPM it want back to 15.5 I assume this presents a problem.
Does any one have an idea as to the cause of this, can I keep using it?
By the way, it has been running rough at idle

I think that because the system was running well you would do well to look to the battery and wiring. My last battery showed a higher charging voltage as it deteriorated a high resistance wire would probably cause trouble starting.
Best regards
