Hi everyone,

I recently took my 55HP Chrysler off my boat and put an 85HP Chrysler on. My steering system is the "standoff Block" type and NOT the tilt tube.

Anyway, my problem is that the 85HP is higher than the 55HP. The steering connector doesn't want to bend that far up to connect to the front of the engine. If I disconnect the "Block Clamp" to hook it up, how will the steering function properly?

Thanks,

Shane

The only thing I can think of, and I might be talking out of my you know what, but barring getting a new steering assembly, you'll need to extend the clamp some how. use a metal shim or something to lower it or bring it up to position. It is really hard to see what the problem is without looking at it.

mike

What I ended up doing is moving the clamp up so that the bottom holes of the clamp lined up with the top holes on the transom. This worked fine but now I've only got two bolts holding the clamp in place instead of 4. I drove it for the first time this morning for a total of 5 minutes before the head gasket blew again. It was an exciting 5 minutes though :D

Shane
