Hydraulic pump woes

This past winter I burned up the motor to my hydraulic pump on my Cub Kadozer. I used the trim cylinders and pump off an old OMC outdrive. It worked excellent for the last several years.

I've been thinking of some alternatives to use. Either get a small pump or try a power steering pump. I can get power steering pumps from a friend for nothing. A small regular hydraulic pump is going to be a bit over a hundred. I don't use the tractor for anything but pulling trailers and the use of the snow blade.

I don't want to fabricate mounting hardware and hoses to find out that a power steering pump won't work.

Then the other possibilty would be finding out if the hydrastatic tranny has a take off for an accessory. It is a 1972 International Cub Cadet. It was the first year for their hydrastatic drive. At least that is what I was told.

Any thoughts or ideas will be appreaciated.......Thanks..........SS

Ayuh,........ It Will Work,......

P/S Pumps run about 1500psi,+ you can just plumb in your Valving just like you normally would,......

You Might want to add a slightly larger Res. to it,+ possibly a Cooler.....
'Course,..... That depends on How Much,+ Often you'd be cycling it.......

Thanks Bondo, by chance would you know what kinda pressure those trim cylinders can take or will I need to add a pressure relief valve?

To the Best of My knowledge the Trim Pumps Also run in the 1500lbs range.......

You Should be Fine........

They're both Light-Duty Simple Hyd. systems..........

1 of My Buds build his pickup truck Plow system with a P/S pump,.....
He just brazed a Tomato Juice Can atop the P/S pump Res. to add more Volume to it......
If you think it Might be necessary..........

I've got an old receiver tank from a regrigeration unit. It will hold about 2 gallons. I'll only fill it about 1/2 to allow for expansion. Since the lines are 1/4" on both the res and cyl, it will make it easy for line hookup.

Now, any ideas on what car or truck would be good to use? Early or late model? Thanks again.......SS

Bondo; why did it have to be a tomato juice can? Is that an unknown trick? It seems maybe a crisco can would come pre-lubed?

I Guess Max was a Tomato Juice Drinker,+ Thought that was Big Enough.....
I always thought it was Neat the way he cut it in,+ still used the Same fillcap...

Corn Oil would Work,..... You'd have to Melt the Crisco to Pump it..........:D

SS,...... I've got Bunches of Chevy pumps laying around,....... I Guess that's where I'd start.....;)

Ain't that Minivan with the Bad tranny got a Pump on it,..??......:D
