Hello everyone,

This is my first post here. Recently, I've inherited a 1985 Bayliner BL4 15'7" Capri [at least that's what the sticker says] and I believe the only trouble is the water pump being faulty. If I can ever get the boot off, that will be dealt with. It has a Force 85 outboard. I would like to identify the exact model of the vessel and motor. I want to get a cover but there are millions of Capris listed...

http://www.boat-cover.net/covers/boatcovers/action.models/manufacturer.Bayliner.html

I think it may be this model:
CAPRI 1600 CR BOWRIDER O/B 1985-1986
What do you all think?

Btw -- is there an additional trick to getting the boot off besides removing the bottom bolts [like being in a certain gear or something]?

Thanks,
Mobydefrag

If you post back with the model number of the motor and boat I'm sure someone here will get you the year of them.

Hi mobydefrag, to remove the lower unit for water impeller replacement you have to remove all the obvious bolts and the pin connecting the shift linkage to the lower unit, then remove the exhaust snout after marking it's position, there's a bolt under the snout, as you remove this bolt the lower unit will likely fall off so be careful. :)

Be careful when pulling the lower unit off. The driveshaft will fall out and you don't want to lose the ring and boot that is on the top end of the shaft. Check www.boatingsolutions.com for impeller kits. I bought mine there, they had about the cheapest prices on the net.
