we are first time boaters and confused.
We have a 1986 starcraft 16' runabout I/O that apparently has some serious motor problems. The mechanic has told us that there is a bad wrist pin causing a bad noise and vibration in the motor. Also that the stern drive has been leaking and is full of water. the bill for this work is in the $2500 range and I guess we're trying to justify spending the money.
thanks forany help. When you're talking about spending that kind of dough, a second opinion wouldn't be a bad idea.

Dianne,

That's a decision that is going to be entirely up to you. You have to figure the following.

1. What condition is the rest of the rig in?

2. Do you like this boat?

3. If you invest the $$$, will it satisfy you for several years to come?

Your rig is worth very little, in it's present state. There aren't many out there that will take on a project such as this.

If the rest of the rig is CLEAN, and I mean CLEAN, you might get your $2500.00 investment back when you sell it.

Agree with both, indeed.

Now is when you should really put that extra effort in checking the market. Occasionally you can get a very good offer on a spotless, used unit when somebody upgrades.

Check workshops and dealers.
