So my brother bought this boat .1995 sprit 170 with 2003 4 stroke 115 hp Yamaha.Because of where his camp is he would like to add a kicker for safety's sake.I would think the right side rear would be about right ,correct? The transom is blocked in and has extremely limited room to maneuver to install on the inside .Thoughts? Is this a model where a kicker is just not possible?

You need to drill bolt holes. Thus, you need to have room on the inside to install a backer plate, washers and nuts.

The transom is the ideal place, but a fixed mount bolted thru the top would be an option.

If you can't get inside you're out of luck.

Personally, I won't own a boat without a gas kicker on the transom. The position of your transom eyes would have made that boat a non starter for me.

I personally like a starboard mount, but port side is OK if a gas tank or some other obstruction is in the way.

What I told my brother was they got that eye on there so we can take it off ,fill and add a kicker I'm thinking.A good strap can be used across the boat inplace of transom tie downs .Ive done that for many years now.

While fooling around with the kicker plate today my brother inadvertently snapped it to the close position with his thumb caught in it .I pried it loose with a large screw driver ,good thing he,s pretty tuff cause that hurt like hell just standing beside him.Lucky for him its not broken and nothing is severed just crushed and extremely painfull.Day one of his wife going to N.Scotia on vacation boy is she going to be shaking her head, lol.
