I have a 115hp mercury on a pontoon. Every time we take it out, it goes great until after about the first five minutes, then it shuts off. Takes longer and longer to get it started back up, turns over, battery is charged, just doesn't start. Pumped the fuel and the sponge hand pump doesn't stiffen up like it is suppose to. Gas tank was full and we only took it a short ways the day before, cant believe it would be out of gas. Any ideas?

What year motor? IL6 or IL4? Any excess fuel in the water? Does motor overheat?

It's a 1974 IL6. There was very little fuel in the water and the motor doesn't seem to be overheating.

Sounds like a bad primer bulb. The primer should fill those carbs and then be good and firm. Since there is no fuel in the water, it sounds like the fuel pump is intact.

One more thing. The top of your carbs will have a "banjo" filter just under the carb bowl cover. Maybe those are dirty? Symptoms don't fit, but those filters seem to be a well-kept secret.
