leaking lower unit

I noticed a boat i was looking at was dripping oil off the skeg when we tilted it down all the way, it seemed awful dark for lower unit oil, any ideas on repair costs?<br /><br /><br />mark

It is probably not lower unit oil. It is probably unburned gas oil mix mixed with exhaust. Chryslers and force motors are notorious for this. A way to reduce it is to decarb motor and also check the puddle valves are clean and operating correctly. If you see it wipe your finger on it and take a whiff. If it smells like gas it is unburned gas mix. If it smells like lower unit oil then the unit is leaking and needs to be resealed.
