Recently purchased a project boat which had been sitting out in weather for some time.

Seller was absolutely correct describing floor being rotten, upholstery shot and boat's needing restoration, so hopefully correct as well in motor's not seized?

Kansas requires certificate of registration being kept on board, with registration numbers visible on hull, which reason I'm searching for a lettering kit. Kit doesn't need to be high dollar nor fancy, merely meeting legal requirements for size and able to withstand long term usage.

A search of iboats forums showed no threads on lettering kits, so I thought I would ask:

Where is the best place to get a lettering kit?

Okay, do you own a computer? If so, you have all the stencils you need already. Using most any type drawing program, you can make your letters/numbers of any size and font you wish. Then print them out, cut them out and use some spray type adhesive on the back of teh printed out letters/numbers to hold them in-place 'til you fill in the areas with any type paint you like.

Don't know about your state, but in Georgia the registration stays with the boat for the life of the boat in that state. If you sell it out of state, then new registration lettering/numbering will probably happen. JMHO

I attached two pictures of how I did exactly that. Yes the hull was still upside down because I was painting the hull at the time and wanted the lettering/numbering to be included when I clear coated everything... Just an idea...

Thanks for sharing all the good advice and information 🙂

Purchased a reasonably priced number/registration kit, however I really appreciate notion using computer printer if wanting some sort of personal logo.

Computer printing was a great suggestion :)

I've ordered several from this guy on ebay. They've always been good.

I used doityourselflettering.com for my boat name and it came out great. They do the standard sizing for hull numbers too
