Hi Guys,

Please help with 2 questions on trim maintenace. I have an Oildyne pump with plastic reservoir which I have serviced. The trim now seems to work fine. Before, the rams were only partially extenting, I think due to very old hydrolic fluid with water mixed in. My first question is: should the plastic reservoir be stationary? It moves a couple of degrees left and right. It is not obvious how to potentailly tighten the reservoir to the bottom of the pump.

The second question is on removing the trim cylinders so that I can clean and respray them. When disconnecting the hydrolic lines from the gimbal housing, the manual suggests a special plug(22-38609) or substitute. I dont want to destroy the threads, so what substitue plug can be used?

Thanks for any input.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya, the tank should be tight, there's a bolt in the bottom, pointed up...

Just plop a catch pan under the fitting manifold,...
Yer pullin' both ends apart, there won't be much fluid loss...

the fittings are the same as a 3/16" brake line...

Re: loose trim pump reservoir, substitute plug??

Great, thanks for the reply.

I am finally able to start a 1989 Searay bowrider, 3.0L Merc, Alpha One project and will post more questions as I run into quandries, enigmas and what look like impossible tasks. I was able to finally isolate the port and starboard transom side trim wires. I plan on installing replacement wires/pucks after I respray gimbal and bell housing. I did not think I would enjoy messing with it all a smuch as I do.

This site with the wealth of information and ready help makes all the difference.
