Hello,

I bought our families first boat last week, a used Bayliner Trophy 2002 Walkaround w/ Force 150 outboard.

When we initially went to the broker to sea test her the motor wouldn't run higher than 2500 RPM. The broker told us that it was probably because the boat had been in storage for a couple of years and would simply need a tune-up. The broker paid for the tune-up and I requested a compression check. When I went back the motor ran like a dream. I ran her at top speed for an hour or so before going back and buying her. The compression check showed everything within limits with one cylinder a little lower than the rest.

Brought the boat back to NC and took her out to Jocassee to play. Ran fine all day until the afternoon. The boat was running along at 5000 RPM when it suddenly dropped to 4000 then 3000 RPM. Eventually it dropped down to 2000 RPM. I trailered her to a mechanic nearby and he pulled the plugs. The plugs were ugly brown. He said they were fouled. He replaced the plugs ran the motor for awhile and declared the motor fixed.

I took the boat back to the lake the next day and she ran great for about an hour and then the power dropped again, just like before.

Because we were staying at the lake for a week we continued to use the boat. I found the following: when the boat dropped RPMs I could turn it off and let it sit for 10-15 minutes and it would run fine. If I keep the RPMs to about 4000-4200 it runs for a long time - 30-40 minutes. If I run the motor at top speed it runs for about 10 minutes before dropping RPMs.

Any suggestions? Guesses? Etc?

Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post......

Steve
