Manual start

I have an '06 Mercury 4 stroke kicker with remote start. Should I ever attempt to start it with the rope, (just to be sure it will). Or do I need to disconnect the battery to avoid damaging anything?

It don't hurt to rope start a engine if you chose to but don't disconnect the battery it could damage the rectifier
