Merc Cruiser 5.7 - Intermittent hesitations under load - Did obvious stuff

I have inconsistent hesitations , more obvious under load.

Sometimes I do not notice it at all. Then other times it is worse.
I have a pretty new water separator, and in-line filter.

I just read a thread where they were talking about a filter actually in the fuel pump. Is there one, if so, I have never changed it.

Plugs and wires not that old, but with the inconsistency, makes me question if it is plugs, wires?

It starts a little hard, once it starts seems to idle ok, no real stalling. Is pretty responsive when I take off, by myself.

Any suggestions / thoughts on this?

Tom, we could sure use an engine serial number, but will try if you can say if the engine is carb, EFI, year. But serial numnber works best
