MerControl box upgrade

'70 merc 1150, old white MerControl box with fast<br />idle arm and tach plug on front. does Merc make<br />a new replacement that's plug and play? put a new<br />shift cable in last year (sticking) and got about<br />2" of dead space on throttle BTW 11 and 9'o clock.<br />no visible probs. and local wrench said ain't much<br />can go wrong with 'em. will install new cable soon,<br />but was wondering if it just might be time to upgrade...<br />as always, thanks in advance <br />M.Y.

Hi Mellow<br /><br />I bet any Quicksilver box would work for ya. I'd peek around E-Bay for one on the cheap. Perhaps This One would interest you.

Does your have a the ignition switch in the control box or dash mounted. If it is part of your control box you can order a new control box and adapter harness.Adpter harness part #93669A2<br />control box #881170A3 about $500 for bolth.

LOL<br />Iboats is my second fav. site so to speak...<br />would actually prefer to pay more and get a new<br />unit, but kinda doubt they make 'em.<br />been around boats enough to learn, if it can go<br />wrong....<br />what do you think about the dead spot? <br />regards,<br />M.Y.

Is the cable housing secure inside the box? sounds like it might be movin' around a bit. Since the cable is new, it could be the gears in the box are worn out or possibly missing a tooth. Have you had it open lately? Never enough lures!!

hey what else can you buy for less than $5 that<br />you'll actually use.... back on the farm, only<br />replaced shift cable last year, didn't do both<br />cuz wrench had no stock and i was goin fishin<br />in 2 days... long story.<br />deff. gonna install new throttle cable first, but just<br />curious if there was current new/retail upgrade.
