Mercury-mariner 2.5hp Breaker Points

This is a 1989 I believe. S/N OA857648.

All I want is the correct point gap. I've called several dealers and have gotten .014, .016, .020. I already know it is somewhere in this range!

Can someone give me the real answer?

i was unable to match your serial # with a 2.5 horse, all i could match it up with was a 2.2 horse 1989.... but my manual describes all small horsepower engines (2.2-3hp) from 1984 to 1991 says the point gap should be set at 0.012-0.016

so it being between 0.012 and 0.016 (dont know why they did bewteen these 2 measurements), i would set it at 0.014
