Hi there I’ve been watching this form for a long time and it has help me rebuild my 1971 Sangster Marine. I’ve got a 70 horse Johnson on it with the help of this forum. I was able to take apart the carburetters and rebuild them. I also was able to diagnose and replace a voltage regulator but now I come to you asking for help.
The other day I was out in the ocean and I noticed a weird smell. I turned off my engine and sniffed around when I got to the engine I realized there was a large piece of kelp covering each side of my water intake. So I took it off when I went to restart my engine. It did not start. I also have battery issues. I need a new battery, just haven’t got it yet. When I cranked over I could hear the hiss of steam.
I used our kicker motor to get us back to the dock and then load up and go home. When I got home, I noticed a milky fluid in the bottom cylinder when I took out the spark plugs, I haven’t tried starting at since. I am wondering what might cause an issue like this? Should I do a compression test?

thank you for your time
