Early last week, my daughter and a few people she works with, went to Paris for the New Year's celebration there. She has worked for a United States carrier, for over 19 years. The carrier has a large Europiean route, which is nice, since she can fly on a stand-by basis, at a reduced rate. This trip was a free-bee, as she was in a group who was given a free round trip ticket, anywhere the company flies. They were commended for their performance and this was part of their "goodie bag."

The bad part is, it is all stand-by flying. She was to return home on Friday, the 2nd. of January,
but she hasn't been able to get out due to over booking. She bought a ticket on Air Frog (France) for today, but that flight was over sold also as her company flights have been for several days and Monday doesn't look good at all.
She hopes to get out on Monday, as she has to be back to work on Tuesday. I don't know how she will get back to work on time. I don't think her company will take too kindly if she doesn't show up.

I wish that would happen to me, when I take my my solo trips to Hawaii and to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. :D

...Bob...stuck in Calif...

I don't think they wil do anything for her, as she chose to go to Europe. I think part of the problem is the pilots of British Air Ways, refuse to allow armed marshals aboard their flights. Without the armed personnel, our government won't allow BA to fly in to the states. Thus, the Americans and others returning to the states at this time, have to take flights other than from Heathrow. Paris is a short hop from London, so these flyer's are taking up the revenue seats on the Paris to American cities routes.

Her company flies to and from Heathrow, but all of those flights are oversold also.

I just hope she picked up the wine I asked her to get me from France. The stuff I like from there hasn't been available in the states for about 20 years.

...Bob in Calif..
"You win some, you loose some and some are rained out."

crab bait.......

Yes, they oversell flights and they do over book also. I'm sure you have heard of passengers being offered some type of compensation for giving up their seat, that's due to overselling the available seats.

The Boeing 777 has about 300 seats.

Yes, she has go to the airport every day and take her chances of getting on.

Yes, she has to pay for a hotel room every night, out of her own pocket.

It is kind of rough for Americans on the $$ exchange rate right now. When the "Euro" first started, one Euro was equial to $0.85 American. Now it takes $1.25 Amcerican to buy one Euro.
That hurts!! No, that sucks.

...Bob in Calif...

If she needs to back quickly, I'd book a flight from Europe to Toronto, and make connections from there.

With our new foreign policy, and new homeland security rules in place, I don't think I would venture overseas much without a red Maple Leaf on my jacket or something.

G' Morning Crab Bait..........

Over selling is a tactic arilines have used for many years, hoping to fly a full flight each time. Rather than just offer flight credit vouchers or free tickets as they do now, airlines formerly offered cash to flyers who give up their seats on "oversold" flights.

This is done by all airlines, in an effort to pad their pockets. But now days, they just offer vouchers worth usually $50.00 or more for giving up your seat or even a full round trip ticket for another trip. They will also book you on the next available flight, using your original ticket, if you give up your seat.

It is like bidding to get you to give up your seat. That is, they start out low and keep raising the ante until they get enough volunteers to meet the demand.

Naturally the original ticket price, distance and destnation of of the flight will come into play when the amounts are offered.

I hope this helps clear things a little.

...Bob in Calif...
