Re: My new Boat- Do you KNow anything About it? 1962 MFG

Jamie, I just bought a 72 mfg sprint , since I have bought it, I started doing research on the boats and the company, I started asking mfg questions here and nobody awnsered, so I looked on the WWW and found some info, I know that the MFG company made alum. boats until late 50's and switched to fiberglass, the boats were popular and they sold record numbers, they had a good design and were durible, they have NO WOOD in the hull, stringers are glass, however they are full of foam (i think mine may be soaked) i have found a soft spot on the floor so i know the hull had some water in it, it is not leaking anymore but the hull is moist ,i found some websites with some detailed photo's from MFG advertisments.including inner hull pictures I learned alot from this page http://www.fiberglassics.com/mfg/index.html also look here http://www.fiberglassics.com/70s/index.html what model is the boat ? what shape is it in? have you been on the water yet? please share any MFG info you find.

Hi Jamie. I sold an MFG up your way a couple of years ago -- had a '61 40 hp Evinrude Lark on it. The boat was white with a grey floor, and a bench front seat. It that sounds real familiar, you may have a boat I can tell you a little bit about. I had picked up the boat for a motor I had, and had a good time putting together a package.

This is my, new to me, 1963 MFG with '61 Lark III 40hp. I've had it out six times this year a she runs and handles close to perfect. I run around the Portsmouth (NH) harbor and the hull seems to be very solid up against some fairly choppy conditions. I haven't gotten up the nerve to venture out of the harbor yet. <br />Good luck on gettin' her goin'<br /><br />

That boat must have been a popular design. 10 years ago I had a '62 Newman that is an almost identical hull design. Curved windshield, and all! The only difference that I can tell is the dash instruments...<br /><br />Mine was in very poor condition, and got it for $100 - with motor, and trailer. I sold it a year or so later for the same $100. The guy only wanted the trailer, but I made him take the boat too! haha<br /><br />G'Luck!<br />Rex S.
