Hi Im hoping someone can help me out here. Ive recently acquired from my folks a Yamaha 9.9 outboard engine that we used many years ago in freshwater when I was very young. In terms of usage for its age its hardly seen water to be honest. Since then the engine has stood in the garage winterised for many years. A friend took it and tested it a couple of years ago and was surprised that after all the time it had stood, started first time with the very old petrol left over in the tank!! :)

The serial number on the block is:
Yamaha 9.9C
682 CS 000453

I want to get it all up and running for the summer and being a newbie to all this I have a few questions I would like to ask if I may.

Firstly the propeller looks pretty bent and looks like it needs replacing/reconditioning. How would I know where to get a new one from and what type/pitch I need. Maybe even to get better performance than the one I have already (presuming prop designs have improved over the years since this one?)

Secondly there is, what seems to be an electrical socket on the front of the block on the left next to the kill button and choke. What is this used for? I was hoping it was either a 12v socket to run appliances while the engine was running (would be ideal!!) or maybe a kill switch that I could somehow attach to the steering wheel! If it is either of these where could I get a lead from in the UK?

Finally, from what I have read the 9.9 block on outboard motors is just a restricted 15 block, is this true? Seeing as Im in the UK I have no restrictions placed upon me and wondering if there was any information to actually do this (if advised!), Im guessing from my minor mechanical knowledge its something to do with replacing with bigger jets/carbs?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
