the pontoon i just bought is 1995 landau pontoon dx-24. the PO switched out the motors from a 50 to a 150. They mounted the controls in the wrong spot so you can not go full throttle or even up to cruising cause it hits the helm. My question is should I reinforce the transom before I move the controls so I have full range of throttle?

Nothing on the boat or owner's manual about the maximum HP rating? That would be the first criteria. Without the manufacture's info, it's just a guessing game.

If the boat's plaque w/HP, Load/etc is not there or has been removed the PO may have removed it so he could sell it without others knowing he exceeded the HP rating.

Chances are the boat's rated for 115 hp maximum. Nothing you can do about having a 150 hp motor mounted on it.

There's also a good chance that your transom may not be quite strong enough for that horsepower.

Yes you should get the throttle/gearshift mounted properly. And you might have a good marine mechanic give you his opinion on the transom. You might have to get a quality welder to beef up the rear end a little.
