one day i went out driving around and saw this boat and i went looked at it and this guy was watering the yard and said you like the boat ? i said well i like boats the guy proceed to say if you like this boat ill give it to you . trade you this boat for your lawn tractor which he was looking at mine, which i have two toro little ones and i already have one brand new one at the cabin so i was carrying the toros in back of my truck. i didnt know what to do with it so, i just said ok, but it dont run anymore and other one needs some work he said ok done deal!!
so i ended up having this boat, i am wondering if its a good boat .. far as i know it needs a bit work on the motor.. i already have put the boat in the water and found that it had awesome good cold start and idles beautiful but there is a bog/quitting issue, i looked at the carb and all of the lines are brand new all done by a dealer because it had brp hoses on it and carbs has been marked in order so they dont mix up, and even took apart to check it over , and i was checking things out and i was going over to see if its synched and linked with carb and timing, i dont know if its the problem with timer base, because i already went over fuel issues 5 times, nothing wrong so i went over to electrical side,
i had a idea i un hooked the timing link and gave it gas it revs up , when i moved the timer base to advanced , it bogs when you are on the throttle and then it dies..
so could it be the timer base ??? and yes ive made sure its synced and it is .. :)

sounds like old fuel in the carbs cause youing to be lean on your idle/air mixture. I would pull the carbs apart and give a good cleaning, blow all the passages out wiht compressed air. In the mean time you could try turning your idle mixture screws counter clockwise slightly (1/8th at a time) and see if that clears things up.

i dont see the air mixture screw on the 70 hp evinrude and its a 1978 but the boat itself is 1979.
i do have few things i need to do waiting on new control cables for the boat , redo carpet, new seat
there is a omc tach on the boat and the wires are not hooked up makes me think the motor itself is not the original one
and the controls on the boat does not line up with the original holes that has been pre drilled but 70 hp should be plenty for 14. 5 footer boat..
on other hand, i still want bigger motor for it since i live in high altitude place at a place called georgetown lake montana . it already has 14x11 prop on it
