I am in the process of making golabkis (Polish cabbage rolls)and a pot of fresh greens and black eyed peas.

How many of you make sure to eat cabbage for a prosperous new year? In the south we not only have cabbage, but blacked eyed peas for good luck.

What food traditions do you have?

Dominoes Pizza will take care of my New Years needs. The better half worked from 8 am to 6 pm yesterday, and had to turn around and work from 10 pm last night to 11 am this morning. I don't think she will achieve awake status until tomorrow morning....

Re: New Year's Day Dinner Traditions

well usually food is the very last thing on my mind new years day, with overdoing the party thing new years eve, food just doesnt appeal to me. but this year both the wife and i are pretty sick with that darn flu. both on antibiotics. so we missed our annual party up at the lake. (first time in 10 years we were not there) anyway i decided if i could not go up there i might as well feel like crap at work and make double time. so thats what i did today. wife stayed home and made cornish game hens sweet potatoes and scalloped corn. along with some apple koochen. oh man it smells great! if fact should almost be ready. hope you all had a great day

hey FSHKPR, my bride makes scalloped corn also. Is very good, a favorite at our family fests. She uses creamed corn and other ingredients-not sure- but- bakes in oven--sure is good.

Am thinking theres at least one Sotherner here who will like very much!! (Trent)

We do the traditional Kraut and Pork. Some times throw in some Polish Sausage. Smoother some mashed 'taters in the stuff, a couple Longnecks and a tab or two of Gas-X after to quell the breeze. Kraut cooked since yesterday so it was really good. Not much left after the "Army" got into it. :D :D

Had black-eyed peas today, for good luck. But then again I hate to see crossed knives on the kitchen counter, it means you will get into an argument.

Happy New Year

Jinx
