I have a '99 Yammie 60hp (c60tlrx) on a 16' scout which sat idle for about 3 months this winter in the garage (I know- mistake number one). Now, it idles fast at about 1500 RPM and won't get up on plane on the water. I only get about 2000-2500 RPM in gear at full throttle, but if I put it in neutral and give it gas, it will rev up to 5500 like normal. At first I thought it might have been condensation in the fuel, but after emptying the h2o/fuel separator bowl and replacing the plugs, as well as putting in a new tank of gas, it still does the same thing. I've checked the carbs and they are lilly white. Like I said, this thing is intermittent, and if I run it long enough it's like something catches and then I'm back to full power. When it is operating properly, it idles back down at 1000 rpm. If I change the circuits on the cylinders it seems that the top cylinder isn't getting any fire, so this leads me to think it's the CDI unit that is the culprit here. Does this sound right, number one, and number 2, is there any way to check the CDI before forking out 500 bones for a new one only to find that this wasn't the problem after all? Any thoughts on what might be ailing my little motor? Much obliged!
