Okay, I wrote earlier today asking about my 1983 Mercury 80 HP. I was fortunate enough to get some information from Yepblaze which showed me how to do tests.

Realizing that those tests had to be done with everything still intact, I proceeded to my teardown for a visual inspection of the wires..

Here's what I found: The wire coming from the trigger to the number 4 part of the Power Pack was badly damaged. So badly, that it was coroded out of existence in two locations. But, a visual inspection of the other wires doesn't reveal anything about the other non-firing cylinder (number 3).

For the pros and experienced out there -- Would a corroded wire coming from the trigger, going to number 4 on the powerpack have any probable or certain effect on the number 3 plug which also isn't firing?

Is there anything I can jump from one wire to another that would tell me whether or not the trigger, stator or powerpack is the culprit?

serial no: 06235628
Inline 4
Cylinders 1&2 fire
but 3&4 do not.

Thanks in advance..
You've been great so far.

B ; )
