1989 Yamaha 175 hp m# 175ETXG. Last season my tank kept over flowing and was not sure what the problem was?? But I have since researched it and foud the two arrows on the float at the motor tank were not alinged, and I guess this can cause the problem?? Also I have been told the float or the control box might be gone?

Well being a old OMC guy I left the injection disconected for the summer. But then the plugs would foul out every 3 to 5 trips?? I was running 50:1 all the time.
Should I have leaned out the oil, as the book says that it adjust it self from 100:1 to 50:1 at WOT.
Or do you think there is another problem?? I might try to fix it soon as I hate cleaning and changing plugs all the time!! Do you think fixing it will help?? or I should be looking at something else.
Thanks!!

Re: oil injection

Hi, Joe.

Yamaha selects the spark plugs assuming that the oil injection is working. That would mean about 150:1 at idle and trolling speed and 50:1 at cruise or above.

Using 50:1 all the time could contribute to fouling. A hotter plug might be one solution, but you need Yamaha to suggest what plug to use.

I would fix the oil injection system and use it. Yamaha systems don't have the bad rep that early VRO (OMC) systems did.

Good luck. :)
