I am new to this form and sure this topic has been asked before but I can't find an answer. My shaft on worm drive side of the hammer-blower coupler has broken end. My question is how to remove the broken tips from the hammer-blow coupler? I really don't want to remove the tilt motor cause it's a hassle. Is there an answer or which is the easy way to remove the motor on a 3.8v6 1981 Larson

owning boats is a hassle and more work than most people want

get the tools out and fix your stringer properly

support the drive, remove the outer cover, remove the tilt motor, clean out the bits, find a used shaft (there are no new ones)

Google OMC tilt shaft and there are several available. There is a plastic washer on either side of the hammer blow coupling that has to be in place. When I had my shop I always advised the OMC owners to never hold the tilt switch down to lower the drive, just tap the switch a few times until the drive contacts the stops to keep the shaft, pins or the end of the tilt motor from shearing off.

The exact thing happened to me my first summer out with the boat ( I held the switch vs. tapping it )

I had a spare motor that didnt work but the shaft was good , so I just swapped out the shaft from the spare. and yes its an akward spot and a PITA to get the motor out , but there is no other way as mentioned above she has gotta come out .
