I just built my first motor. Having problems withover heating. Idle and running. Help please

What year OMC? Are you running on muffs or on the water? Did you change the impeller?

I did not change impeller. I looked at it and i nelieve it os fine all teeth are there amd appear to be on good shape.

1988. I was in lake woth the boat,fresh water, i beloeve timing is right

Did you rebuild the carb before putting the motor back together? How long has it been since the last rebuild? Always a good idea to rebuild your carb if you are building a new motor or if its been a few years. Dont guess on your engine timing either. Go to your local auto parts store and rent a timing light and KNOW the timing is right.

Also, are you using fresh gas? How long has that gas been sitting in the tank since last fill up?

If you just built the engine it needs to be timed with a timing light, dont guess.
