One last time before I give up!

Hello all, I am going to post this question one last time before I give up looking. I am rebuilding an old 1976 Tom Boy fiberglass tri haul boat that has an old Morse Command 2 Stick steering assembly on it. I?ve removed the entire system and found the steering cable is totally gone. In fact the PO tried to cover up the fact that the steering cable was rusted nearly all the way through by sliding three pieces of heat shrink tubing over the rusted area.

I have emails a few places to see if they still had any replacements or some old stock to fit this control setup. Even Telex system that bought out Morse Controls emailed back saying they don?t have anything to work anymore. So I am asking everybody if they know of anybody or even some Marina that could have a steering cable sitting on their back shelves for this setup. If I can?t get any cable, even an older one that is still in great working condition, then I?ll replace the entire system to a new Eze Glide setup. I was just trying to keep it like it was originally if possible. Why? I have no good reason...

Any good ideas......?????

I don't have much knowledge on these things and I have no idea if this link is helpful at all Ezy Glide stick steering systems and cables in stock. but it might be a place to check with. I keep this link in my bookmarks because he sells an adapter kit for older tilt-tube-less outboards.

Thanks ezmobee for your suggestion. With the number of hits that have read this and only one reply, I guess it is all but over for this stick steering old unit. What I was hoping for was somebody reading through this posted comment that had seen or even a marina that maybe had one sitting on their selves for years and thought about it with this last effort to locate one before I buy a whole new stick steering system. I'll try email with picture the source you supplied and see if anything is available. I don't mind replacing the one I have now. It is just that the unit is in very good condition and I hate to discard it... Odd how something like this is out-dated and you know somewhere in the USA they has to be a cable that was never used sitting somewhere and you can’t locate one. I mean what are the odds of not one cable that is for this system not being out there somewhere? Thanks again...

Not sure if this helps, but.

I remember finding a list of boat salvage yards. Not sure if it was in Iboat forum or just googling but cant find it here or in my favorites.

Anyway, I remember a handful of places had very large inventories of old motors, steering, pieces parts of all types.

So, before surrender you may want to do a search on boat salvage and perhaps you'll find something.

Good luck !

Replace it with the new system... there's a reason they don't make that old system anymore, and I think you've found out what that reason is.

But it's your steering, and it's connected to the motor, so I'd replace it before I trusted a used or old (not even NOS, if it's obsolete now...) cable. Even if I was trying to do a high dollar, boat show trailer queen resto.

What's the length of your cable? Diameter?

Well WOG, it is an odd size measuring around 12' 6".

I just received my last email from the place ezmobee suggested and they said there is no replacement cable for that system anymore and to replace the entire system with an Eze Glide unit. So when I decide which Eze Glide I want, I guess that is the way to go now. Eze Glide makes two different units. One is the Eze Glide 840 system and the other is their 870 system. One has a throw of over 200 degrees of the control stick while the other is around 160 degree throw. So I have to decide if I want a little more response or more torque. Being how this is going on a boat with a 40 HP engine, I'll have to read which gives me better control with that HP setup... Thanks again everybody for your help and concern...
